Who built it, and what they built
Predis is a three-person startup based in Pune, Maharashtra, India, founded in February 2021. Its flagship product, PredisAI, uses artificial intelligence to help people write stronger social media posts and lift engagement. The tool predicts how a post will perform and recommends improvements before anything is published.
The team targets social media agencies, in-house social media teams at companies, and influencers. At the time of the story, the product supported only Instagram and had 50 daily active users, with the business still pre-revenue.
The founders argue that existing social media tools only work after the fact, offering scheduling or analytics once a post is live. Predis instead aims to forecast engagement and suggest changes in advance, which they see as a fundamentally different approach.
Where the idea came from
This is Tanmay Ratnaparkhe's second venture. His first was a software company serving the F&B and restaurant space, which grew over 6.6 years to 2500 clients across 72 Indian cities plus 5 cities abroad, with a team of 45. He sold that business to India's largest digital products company and stayed on for 2 years to help with expansion and transition.
His co-founders, Aakash and Akshay, graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee and worked at high-growth startups in India and Singapore on research-heavy data science problems before branching out. They have also won AI/ML competitions on platforms including Kaggle and Analytics Vidhya.
Predis was not the team's first idea. They initially tried building AI for AI, but found it too complicated to build, sell, and deploy, so they pivoted toward applying the concept in a specific industry.
