Who built it, and what they built
Ankur Singh is the co-founder and CEO of Vadootv, a Bangalore-based SaaS that lets creators and small businesses record, upload, manage, and share videos through embed codes, landing pages, email, or social media.
The product positions itself as an alternative to Vimeo and Wistia, with features spanning video hosting, a video player, video landing pages, screen recording, podcast hosting, and video security.
The company started in May 2020, has two co-founders, and lists five employees.
Where the idea came from
Ankur met his co-founder Anil in 2020, and the two discussed problems created by the rapid shift to video in online content and communication, a shift covid19 had sped up.
They saw latency for viewers and bandwidth costs for companies as the core issues, and aimed to address them with peer-to-peer streaming and compression, betting that mobile devices could both play and distribute video while running compression.
The first product was a developer SDK released on GitHub, which reached 50k MAUs streaming video. After a couple of months of customer conversations, the team learned that early users actually wanted full video hosting instead of an optimization layer, so the company pivoted into hosting and marketing.
