Who built it, and what they built
Rahul Garewal, 38, spent about 15 years in Hyderabad after moving there from a small town for work. In 2017 he and his brother Pushkar Garewal, 36, started Printstreet, an online customization and merchandising service that prints customer text and images on products such as t-shirts, hoodies, and bags.
Printstreet served both individuals and enterprises. With no minimum order quantity, a single shopper could order one printed hoodie while companies could place bulk orders for customized corporate merchandise and gifts.
Where the idea came from
Rahul worked in a corporate role for nearly 8 years, eventually running a nationwide franchisee network of over 50 centers for an ed-tech firm and handling combined revenue exceeding USD 5M (INR 50 Cr). Guiding first-time entrepreneurs inspired him to create his own venture.
He left the job in 2015 and began experimenting. One experiment, supplying customized study material to training institutes across India, put him in close contact with the printing industry, where he spotted the problems Printstreet would later target.
- Minimum order quantities that make it hard to buy a single customized item
- Generic, unbranded product quality from local suppliers
- Delivery windows of 2-3 weeks for customized orders
