Who built it, and what they built
Naveen Kumar is the CEO of Pyotam, a water technology company based in Karnal, Haryana, India. An alumnus of IIT (BHU), Varanasi, he holds several patents in water conservation techniques and solutions and describes himself as an environmentalist.
Pyotam builds technologies for water purification, management, and conservation, and positions itself as India's first ayurvedic alkaline beverage brand. Its flagship drinks are a copper-powered alkaline thirst quencher and a panch tulsi alkaline thirst quencher, both infused with ayurvedic herbs.
The water is kept at a pH between 8 and 9 with TDS levels of 150-250ppm, meeting Indian Standards 10500:2012. The patented manufacturing process wastes no water and cuts energy use by 50-60% compared with traditional methods.
Where the idea came from
The idea grew out of Naveen's earlier startup, which worked on reverse osmosis technology. He noticed the water produced was acidic and realized many people were likely drinking low-pH water without knowing it, since few ever check the pH of what they drink.
Seeing how many people suffer from acidity and related problems, he searched for a cost-effective fix and landed on alkaline water with ayurvedic properties. After research and help from incubators, he patented the technology used to manufacture the product.
“Only if you know your market will you be able to design and sell the product.”
