Who built it, and what they built
Ramsri Goutham Golla is a solo bootstrapped founder based in Hyderabad, India. He runs Questgen.ai, an AI-powered tool that turns any input text into school-style quizzes such as multiple choice, true/false, and fill-in-the-blank questions.
His customers are teachers, schools, edtech companies, and students preparing for exams. The business earns $4K MRR at a 70-80% profit margin, and he now spends under five hours a month on it, mostly on customer support and small requested fixes.
Where the idea came from
In 2020, while based in Singapore and working with an edtech founder, Ramsri explored several AI-in-education ideas, including vision-based analytics for live tutoring, adaptive learning, and AI-generated quizzes. Conversations with edtech companies revealed that quiz creation was often outsourced, which made AI quiz generation look like the idea with the most technical growth potential.
The team fell apart over co-founder conflicts, and he moved back to India in 2021 without plans to pursue entrepreneurship. Still drawn to the idea, he kept sharing code experiments and small prototypes on blogs and social media. In 2022 he packaged his learnings into an Udemy course that made $10K USD in a little over two years.
In 2023 he decided to build a basic frontend where anyone could paste text and receive quizzes, launching the first version of what became Questgen.ai.
