How a Facebook group for founders grew into a $10K/month media business

Who built it, and what they built

Shubham Kumar founded StartupTalky, a community and media platform aimed at entrepreneurs. The business is based in Bangalore, Karnataka, India, and focuses mainly on the Indian market while gradually attracting readers from other countries.

The operation combines a large Facebook community for entrepreneurs with a content website, and it has recently added a Digital PR service led by a team member. The company has 13 employees and one cofounder.

Where the idea came from

Shubham cracked the IITJEE exam and entered the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, where he was introduced to the startup world. He found the idea of building something from zero exciting but could not find a community or platform where he could learn from and connect with other founders.

To solve his own problem, he created a Facebook group and began posting useful content he found through searches and news. Members kept joining, and the group grew from 20K to 50K and eventually to 100K members.

Monetizing the community proved difficult even though it consumed roughly 10 to 12 hours of his day. To generate revenue, he started a blog featuring stories of community members, planning to earn through AdSense.
