Who built it, and what they built
CA Vinod Gupta and Mr. Anil Ahuja are the two founders of 88Guru, an EdTech startup launched in India in October 2022. Both bring long careers as entrepreneurs and investors, averaging more than three decades of experience backing businesses.
The platform offers online tuition for students in classes 5th to 8th, with monthly packages starting at Rs88 and no compulsory annual plan. Teachers come from well-known Indian schools such as DPS, G.D. Goenka, and Shiv Nadar, each with over 15 years of classroom experience.
The business panel lists the company as India-based, started August 2021, with 55 employees and two cofounders.
Where the idea came from
The idea grew out of conversations between the founders about how strongly early schooling shapes a child's future. They concluded that strengthening fundamentals at the school level was work worth doing, and consulted professors and institutions to map out what an excellent education requires.
They raised about $3 million (Rs22 crores) in funding, earmarked for expansion and building K-12 content. The venture drew on their existing edtech businesses, VG Learning Destination and 88tuition, under the motto 'best Padhai best price.'
