Who built it, and what they built
Junaid Ansari co-founded Draftss with Amin Memon. Based in Mumbai and started in April 2018, Draftss is a productized graphic design and frontend code service sold on subscription, with plans starting at $89/week. The business panel lists 60 employees and two co-founders.
The service covers a wide range of design work, from branding and logos to illustrations, landing pages, app UX/UI, packaging, ads, pitch decks, and social media graphics. On the code side, the team builds in HTML/CSS and on WordPress with several popular page builders, plus tools like Webflow and Unbounce.
A key part of the offer is that clients can plug the Draftss team into their own workflow tools, including project management boards, design handoff apps, and even messaging apps like WhatsApp and Telegram. If a client uses a tool that is not yet supported, the team will evaluate it and add it when practical.
Where the idea came from
Before Draftss, the founders had run a design agency as a side business for about 10 years. Watching competitors offer productized services inspired them to design a process they believed could be more efficient and more affordable.
The concept was to productize design and code: a customer buys a subscription and effectively gets a design or development team on demand, subscribing when they have projects and unsubscribing when finished.
To validate the idea, they built a minimal landing page with a portfolio from past agency work and pushed it live within a week. A Show IH post on IndieHackers brought in the first 4 customers. They also added an Experiment Plan at $29/per task, expecting people would want to try one task before committing to a monthly package.
