Who built it, and what they built
Sorav Jain is a digital marketer, trainer, and consultant based in Chennai. He runs echoVME Digital, an agency that has served brands such as Nippo, Casagrand, Success Gyan, Levista, and Chu Chu TV for over a decade, and he founded Digital Scholar, a training institute that teaches digital marketing in an agency-style environment.
Digital Scholar opened in September 2019 with a first batch of about 90 students and has since grown to more than 100,000 students. Its audience spans college graduates starting careers, entrepreneurs scaling businesses, and sales professionals looking to generate more leads.
Where the idea came from
After finishing his education at Leeds University in 2009, Sorav returned to India, took a job at a marketing process outsourcing startup, and began publishing digital marketing tips on his own blog. His father wanted him to join the family textile business, but he resisted and kept building his presence across social networks.
The idea for the institute came from hiring marketers at his agency over ten years and repeatedly seeing a shortage of quality training. He had a working solution inside his own agency, so he built Digital Scholar to close that gap, a dream he says took ten years after his first job to realize.
