Who built it, and what they built
Imran Rautan is the founder and CEO of Litvill Lessons Association, a non-profit online English learning platform based in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. He is also a PhD student, and describes learning as a lifelong pursuit.
The platform targets school-going children in India and aims to change how they learn English. Rather than following a typical invest-and-earn model, Imran treats the venture as a mission, built around custom e-modules and unconventional teaching methods.
The business panel lists the company as started in November 2022, with 10 employees and 2 cofounders.
Where the idea came from
Imran grew up in a poor neighborhood in Jaipur where most children went straight to work instead of finishing school. From the age of 8 he polished stones after classes, yet still completed secondary school. His family could not afford university fees.
Working at a small hotel after school, he noticed that the wealthy guests all spoke English. He began teaching himself using English newspapers guests left behind, treating every guest as a potential tutor.
A guest from Europe, Dolores Csabai, turned out to be an expert in learning theories. Imran did most of the learning himself while she guided him online, and within less than 6 months he could communicate comfortably with hotel guests. She later supported him financially so he could attend university, where he studied by day and worked full-time until midnight for three years, including weekends.
